About Olive Mount Kids
Thanks for visiting Olive Mount Kids. My name is Beth and I'm a homeschooling mother of four, currently living in Indiana. My background in math and English education led me to believe what is standing between our kids and learning is our schools. There are good and bad teachers; there are involved and uninvolved parents; but at the end of the day, our current school model was designed to manufacture cookie cutter factory workers, not the free-spirited, critically thinking citizenry the founding fathers desired. Our children are succeeding despite the schools, not because of them. Given the choice between homeschooling my own kids or fighting against a poorly designed system to teach other people's kids, I decided to stay home with my children.
This site has been founded in the spirit of blessing others. Teaching your own child at home can become expensive. The more you pay, the more you feel you have to use what you paid for and can't afford to buy anything else, even if it's not working. As a stay-at-home mom first beginning to homeschool, I needed to be the heroic home economist, but I also needed more handwriting pages for a daughter who wanted to learn how to write her letters. At her age, a whole page dedicated to nothing but tracing or copywork was beyond her attention span and nobody was making free coloring pages for PreCursive. As I realized the amount of effort I was putting into their creation, I decided others could benefit too. This site is still a work in progress. My goal is to make it an extensive free resource database, minimizing the need to search the entire web for basic essentials of education. At the very least, if I make it for my kids, I plan to give it to yours.
